Happy Birthday to me!

I am 31. Wow! 31. It actually is a scary number. It feels old. My friends mocked me on my birthday this year and gave me an anti-aging effect make up! Of course it was a joke and we had a good laugh on it!

This year I am giving myself a new blog on my 31st birthday! And I am celebrating with my first real post on it! Welcome to my new blog, dear readers!

Since I am a curious person and like to find out who's the writer behind the tens of blogs I regularly follow, I think it'd be just nice of me to start off with a proper introduction of who's the writer behind "A scrapbook of life".

A bookworm. Books, how can anyone go one single day without a book?! Now this is something I can't really understand. I am book-aholic. I've always been, I knew my alphabet with four and read children books back then. I think I have never stopped ever since. A summer, I was 14 and had just finished secondary school, before taking the big jump to High School, I read some 15 books in little more than 15 days! And it wasn't short books I read, but had some good titles such as Little Women and its sequels among those books! I can read both in Italian (my mother tongue) and in English (that I particularly appreciate and like to do). I am especially reading in the latter language lately, I need to brush up my own English, now that I am off school and off snail mail, reading is my only tool to refresh my own English skills.

A Londoner at heart. Now, this is a long long story. But I won't go long here. I will sum the story up with a few words: London is where my heart belongs! I was at the primary school and already dreaming of attendind a college in London. The Big Ben has always fashinated me and the life they lead up there in merry old England is a life I would gladly stick to. I had my dream satisfied when I was allowed on a summer school in Colchester back at the end of the 90's. I've been to England several times since then and to London a good few times. I can remember each street I walked through when there, I can clearly remember the smells and sounds and I have a favourite second hand bookshop in London. I would gladly go back again and again, London would never have me tired of it! And I am happy I infected my boyfriend on this love for England. Ok, I must be sincere, he likes London allright. I am insanely in love with it! But still.

A girlfriend. I am truly madly deeply in love with my one and only. We' ve been together 12 years next May. We were high school sweethearts, grown up together through ups and downs and learnt that love needs respect, understanding, patience and perseverance. I consider myself lucky to have such a special person by my side. My boyfriend's name is Ricky and he's a lawyer. We're an odd couple, him being a lawyer and me being a social worker. Thankfully we've lots other interests we share and are not always talking of our jobs! Actually we very rarely talk about jobs, we are conscientious workers by day but busy bees when off work. We've got several interests and we are rarely bored when off duty.

I think I will let it as it is for the moment. More about me facts in the next post.

A new blog.

I have been thinking a lot on the blog thing. I have blogged already before. My "Life in tiny details" kept me (good) company for some two years and I had finally reached the two-digits number of 44 followers, that made me feel pretty proud of myself, when I found out an astonishing truth: I wasn't happy with my own blogging activity as it was. I mainly blogged about snail mail and I even held stationery give-aways. People seemed to like what I posted, but I wasn't happy. Now, I think that blogging is an activity people mostly do for themselves. It of course gives great joy when a blogger starts gaining new followers that are not only relatives or life-long friends who sometimes feel oblidged to press that "follow me" button out of courtesy. Gaining new followers is actually exciting. And having a blog post commented on is something that made me go head over heels with happiness. Yet, a comment and a new follower, as exciting as it is, could no more give me the motivation I needed to go on blogging. I needed a fresh new start. And that's how it happened that I decided to close down "Life in tiny details" and to start anew. This blog is my own gift to myself for my 31st birthday. I've carefully read Sally's tips for new bloggers and I already started to write down a list of future blog posts. I am positive I will soon be hooked and totally satisfied with my new blogging activity. First post is scheduled for my own birthday, that is only 5 days away. I will indulge in words, I will taste every phrase that I am gonna write down on here. And I hope I will find myself in this new blog-style. I will be faithful to my new goal "Be Marta", as I am, with ups and downs, good sides and faults. Because that's what true blogging is about: lifestyles, sharing experiences, finding other people who are alike you and feeling no more lonely on this wide various globe.
